Vol. 271 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Industries.

46.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of new industries of a major character which were set up during 1974; and the number of these which were sited in County Kerry.

Five projects of a major character commenced in Ireland so far in 1974. None of these was sited in County Kerry. The IDA Board have approved 17 projects of a major character this year to-date. Two of these are to be sited in County Kerry —one in Tralee to employ 129 and one in Castleisland to employ 70 at full production.

47.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of industrialists who visited this country during 1973 in connection with the establishment of new industries; and the number who have decided to establish industries.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that according to their information representatives of 458 companies visited this country in 1973 in connection with the establishment of new industries, and that so far 96 of these companies have made positive decisions to establish in Ireland.

48.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the steps that are being taken to provide an industry for Drumshanbo, County Leitrim; and the land that is available for such industry.

I understand that the Industrial Development Authority are at present negotiating for the purchase of a four acre site from Leitrim County Council.

Drumshanbo is one of five towns in Leitrim specified as centres for industry in the IDA regional plans for the years 1973-1977, and in implementing the plans the IDA will be concerned to encourage industry to establish at an early date on the site now being acquired.
