Vol. 271 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Industries.

50.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the progress that has been made to establish industries in the Millstreet, Newmarket and Kanturk areas, County Cork: and if the IDA have acquired land in this area.

I have been informed that the Industrial Development Authority have had discussions with three different promoters interested in establishing industry in the Newmarket, Kanturk and Millstreet areas of Cork. One of these projects, which will employ 40 persons in Kanturk at full production, has recently been approved by IDA.

Suitable sites for industry in the Kanturk/Newmarket area have now been identified by IDA in consultation with Cork County Council. The county council are at present negotiating with the owner for the purchase of one of these sites.

Can the Minister say if the other two industrialists have made a positive decision to establish their industries there? Are there positive decisions by the industrialists or just inquiries? One has made a positive decision.

One has made a positive decision. In the case of the others the discussions are tentative but they are continuing. In other words, they have not reached the point of saying they are no longer interested. Neither have they reached the point of saying they are definitely going ahead.
