73.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the increase in electricity charges which came into effect since 1st March will be charged to consumers for the period January-February, 1974.

74.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the increases in electricity charges which have been authorised since 1st November, 1973; and the date from which these increases applied to consumers.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 73 and 74 together.

The following increases in the price of electricity have been authorised since 1st November, 1973:

(a) An increase in electricity charges of 10 per cent;

(b) A fuel surcharge related to prices of fuel oil and based on a formula agreed between the ESB and the National Prices Commission.

As stated in the announcement issued by the Government Information Services on 31st December, 1973, the increases mentioned above are payable on accounts issued after 1st March, 1974, in respect of consumption from 1st January, 1974.
