My Department in consultation with other Departments concerned are studying the pros and cons of seeking a modification, for the purposes of the Common Agricultural Policy, in the representative rate of the Irish £ vis-à-vis the Unit of Account in order to bring it more into line with the current market rate. This is a very complex issue with many implications, and pending completion of the study at present in progress I do not propose to make any detailed comment.
