Vol. 275 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Recreation Centre.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for recreational facilities in Clonkeen/Deansgrange district, County Dublin; and if he will state the outcome of the planning application for the Clonkeen recreation centre.

An application by the Clonkeen recreation centre for outline planning permission for the provision of a recreational complex at Clonkeen Road was refused by Dublin County Council on 9th September, 1974. An appeal was received in my Department against this decision on 9th October, 1974, and an oral hearing has been requested. The hearing will be arranged as soon as possible.

When the Minister says the hearing will be arranged as soon as possible, how soon is possible? Can the Minister tell us when the hearing will be held?

Actually the oral hearing, because of the limited facilities, takes some time. I have asked that this case be dealt with as quickly as possible. I would say it will possibly be within the next month or slightly over it. It is not a very big case.

It may not be a very big case to the Minister but it is an extremely important one.

I am sorry Deputy Andrews has misunderstood me. I mean it may not take a long time and may be fitted in. I cannot give a guarantee.

When the oral hearing is completed within a month's time will the Minister, within another fortnight or three weeks, give his decision on the outcome of the oral hearing?

I assure Deputy Andrews the day the report comes to my table the decision will be given.

Can I take it the matter will be dealt with before Christmas?

I cannot guarantee anything but I have answered the Deputy as best I can.

Without prejudice to whatever decision the Minister may come to, is he aware of the importance to the Clonkeen area of this recreation centre? Is he aware how important the outcome of the decision is?

This matter, I am quite sure, will be adverted to when the appeal is heard.
