Vol. 275 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blackrock (County Dublin) Town Hall.

2.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the poor condition of the Town Hall, Blackrock, County Dublin; and the action, if any, he intends taking in the matter.

I have no information in the matter which is one for consideration by Dún Laoghaire Corporation as the local authority concerned.

Here is a situation where the Minister could take an initiative. If I put down a parliamentary question to the Minister within the next three or four weeks, will he in the meantime find out from the local authority what are their plans regarding Blackrock Town Hall?

The position is that the local authority have the right to initiate developments such as this and it is a matter for them. All I could do is something the Deputy could do himself. I could ask the local authority what they are doing about this matter but Deputy Andrews could do that himself.

The reason I put down the question was to bring to the attention of the House the urgent need for recreational amenities in the Blackrock area.

I would remind the Deputy this is Question Time and he should not make statements.

I suggest to the Minister the reconstruction of the Blackrock Town Hall might take account of the need for amenities.

I agree with the Deputy it would be a good idea but local authorities and their members should accept their responsibilities in such matters.

I am calling Question No. 3.
