Vol. 275 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway School Closures.

17.

asked the Minister for Education the name of each national school closed by him in County Galway since 14th March, 1973; and the national schools it is proposed to close over the next two years.

Mr. R. Burke

The information requested in regard to schools which have been closed is set out in a tabular statement, which with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to circulate with the Official Report. It is not possible at this stage to give the names of the schools which may be closed in the next two years, as final decisions are taken only after consultation with the local interests concerned. Furthermore, the date of implementation of a decision may be affected by the date of completion of contracts for new central schools or additions to existing schools.

Following is the statement:

Is Moyard national school one of the schools on the Minister's list?

Mr. R. Burke

It is.

Is the Minister aware that pupils are refusing to accept the closing of Moyard school? Is he further aware that there is an empty school bus doing a lonely tour in that area and pupils are not getting any schooling at all?

Mr. R. Burke

No communication has been received in my Department to that effect.
