Vol. 275 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Secret Service Activity.

78.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has any reason to suspect or to believe that any agency of the secret service of the Government of Great Britain is operating in this State; and, if so, the action he has taken to stop those activities.

79.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has any reason to suspect or to believe that the CIA or any other such agency of the Government of the USA is operating in this State; and, if so, the action he has taken to stop those activities.

80.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has any reason to suspect or to believe that the KGB or any other such agency of the Government of the USSR is operating in this State; and, if so, the action he has taken to stop those activities.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos 78 to 80 together.

I do not think I can reasonably be expected to say what I may or may not suspect or believe in a matter of this kind, all the more so in a context where particular foreign governments are named.

I must confine myself to saying that if at any time evidence were to become available that unlawful or other unacceptable activity within our jurisdiction was being promoted by any government, appropriate action would be taken.
