Vol. 275 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Registry Staff.

97.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is intended to increase the staff in the Land Registry Office in order to expedite dealings and applications for maps; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the past year substantial progress has been achieved in reducing arrears in the Land Registry with the result that the delay in issuing copy maps has been halved and the overall arrears in dealings has been reduced by 10 per cent. This has been achieved despite a growth in the number of dealings of 21 per cent in 1971, 14 per cent in 1972 and 11 per cent in 1973.

This substantial improvement in output is the result of a general reorganisation of work systems and staffing structure. Staff numbers have been increased as part of this reorganisation.

Having regard to these measures and to the full benefits of the reorganisation which are still to accrue I am hopeful that the service being provided by the Land Registry will continue to improve.
