asked the Minister for Education if he will consider the establishment of a tele-university programme course on RTE with a view to encouraging adults to avail of these courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. R. Burke
I stated in my reply to a similar question on 25th October, 1973, that I understood that the Higher Education Authority had undertaken a study of the need for and the feasibility of establishing a facility in this country of the open university type, and that they proposed to furnish me with their advice in the matter.
I am informed that in its progress report which is expected to be published shortly the authority intend to make a reference to adult education and the idea of an open university.
The views of the Higher Education Authority, together with other relevant views, will be considered by me when available.
