146.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of dwellings completed with the assistance of grants from his Department in the second quarter of 1973-74 and in the corresponding period of the transitional financial period 1974.

The numbers were 5,602 and 4,997 respectively. These figures do not include grants paid in respect of local authority purchase-type houses.

147.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of dwellings for which grants were allocated by his Department in the first and second quarters of the transitional financial period 1974.

The numbers were 4,246 and 4,257 respectively. These figures do not include grants allocated in respect of local authority purchase-type houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of dwellings begun or authorised in the second quarter of 1973-74 and in the corresponding period of the transitional financial period 1974.

A total of 6,426 dwellings were begun or authorised in the second quarter of 1973-74, and the figure for the corresponding period in the current year is 6,564.

149.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of new local authority dwellings completed in 1973-74 on which work commenced in that year.

150.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of new local authority dwellings completed in the first five months of 1973-74 and in the first five months of the transitional financial period 1974.

With the permission, of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to answer Questions Nos. 149 and 150 together.

A total of 6,539 new local authority dwellings were completed in 1973-74 of which 2,329 were completed in the first five months of that year. Work commenced on 8,130 local authority dwellings during 1973-74. A total of 1,576 dwellings were completed in the first five months of the transitional financial period 1974 out of an estimated total of 7,250 dwellings to be completed in the 12 months ending 31st March, 1975.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of each local authority housing scheme commenced since 1st April 1973.

The Minister has already given this information to the Deputy for the period from 1st April, 1973 to 31st December, 1973, in a reply to his Parliamentary Question No. 71 of 7th February, 1974. I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a tabular statement setting out the local authority housing schemes commenced in the period 1st January, 1974 to 31st August, 1974, the latest date for which information is available.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of each local authority housing scheme completed in 1973-74 and at 31st October in the transitional financial period 1974.

Records are not kept in the Department of the dates of completion of individual local authority housing schemes. Statistics are compiled on the basis of numbers of houses completed in each area each month. As the reply on this basis is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

asked the Minister for Local Government the average price of new houses for which loans were approved by local authorities in the first quarter of 1973 and in the first and second quarters of the transitional financial period 1974.

The average prices were £5,361, £7,058 and £7,094 respectively.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he considers that Government policy in relation to housing output is in need of review.

The answer is "no". Policy in relation to housing output is reviewed whenever the Government consider this necessary.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will outline the financial provisions made to facilitate the achievement of the Government housing target of 25,000 houses in the 12-month period from 1st April, 1974.

In replies to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 25 to 30 and 32 of the 10th July, 1974, and Nos. 12 and 13 of the 30th October, the Minister outlined the measures which the Government have taken to ensure an unprecedently high level of financial support for housing in order to facilitate the achievement of an output of 25,000 houses in the year ending 31st March, 1975.
