171.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of firms which have received rescue treatment from central funds in the past year; the total amount of aid given; if this aid is repayable; and the rate of interest thereon.

Mr. Kenny

Fóir Teoranta is the State-sponsored body which is charged with providing rescue finance for industrial concerns. In the year ended 31st October, 1974, the company approved financial assistance for 45 concerns. Total funds approved amounted to £2,929,750, all of which is repayable. The rate of interest charged by Fóir Teoranta ranges from 12½ per cent up to about 15 per cent depending on the individual circumstances of the firms receiving assistance.

172.

asked the Minister for Finance if firms in the builders' providers section of the construction industry which are working a three-day week at present are eligible for rescue operation treatment from central funds.

Mr. Kenny

Fóir Teoranta provides rescue finance for firms engaged in an industrial activity in accordance with the provisions of the Fóir Teoranta Acts, 1972 and 1973. As the activity of builders' providers is in the distribution sector the board of Fóir Teoranta have decided that such activity is not eligible for assistance under the Acts referred to.
