Vol. 278 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pesticide Residues.

138.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, in view of the fact that some goods such as fruit, vegetables and dairy products often contain pesticide residues, he will take steps to ensure that such residues are kept at levels which do not constitute a health hazard.

The levels of pesticide residues found by surveys of our agricultural produce, which are well below those elsewhere and the levels accepted under the Codex Alimentarius and other regulations, do not constitute a health hazard. Consideration is being given by EEC to the issue of directives on maximum pesticidal residues in agricultural products, commencing with fruit and vegetables.
