asked the Minister for Local Government if, in respect of the distribution of the Irish population, he considers it best to encourage the optimum possible spread of development so that each area may secure a reasonable opportunity to cater for its own population.

General Government policy seeks to secure the spread of social and economic opportunities through all regions of the country. The aim is to secure the creation of jobs locally so as to minimise population dislocation by internal migration or by emigration abroad.
