asked the Minister for Health the number of State-enrolled nurses in Ireland; their present status in Irish hospitals; and the proposals, if any, he has for the further training of these nurses to ensure that they are granted official status.
Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - State-enrolled Nurses.
45.
I have not information on the number of "state enrolled" nurses in this country as such a grade is not recognised for appointment to nursing posts in the health services.
I understand that some persons who obtained this qualification in Great Britain are employed in some hospitals, mainly as ward attendants.
I have no proposals for the further training of persons with the "state enrolled" qualification. No doubt the role of this grade will be considered by the working party on nursing which I am in the process of setting up at the moment.
