Vol. 279 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - UN Resolution.

9.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the Government have reconsidered their attitude to resolution 3070 passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on the 30th November, 1973; and, if not, why.

By the terms of Resolution 3070 the General Assembly of the United Nations on 30th November, 1973, re-affirmed the legitimacy of armed struggle by peoples under colonial and foreign domination and called upon all states to offer material and any other assistance to such peoples.

As the Minister explained in reply to the Deputy's earlier question on 20th February, 1974, Ireland abstained on the vote since we are not prepared to support guerilla activities. The Government's policy in this regard has not changed. Ireland abstained on a resolution with the same formulation at the most recent session of the General Assembly.

Might I ask the Parliamentary Secretary if the Government have any attitude in relation to the situation now in Laos and Cambodia in respect of this question?

That is a separate matter, Deputy.

It is the same question.

It is a separate matter. Question No. 10.
