Vol. 281 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Houses.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for the building of a substantial number of new houses in Portlaw, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am so aware. The planning and execution of a housing programme to meet these needs is a matter in the first instance for the housing authority. 51 houses were completed by Waterford County Council so far this year. At 30th April, 1975, they had 66 dwellings under construction, 37 at tender stage, and 294 being planned. Capital amounting to £350,000 has been allocated to the council so far this year, and a claim has been made by them for further moneys which will be reviewed in the near future, in conjunction with similar claims by other authorities. The council have recently sought authorisation to start work on some further houses in the meantime and this request is being examined as a matter of urgency.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the delay in completing the ten new council houses at Portlaw, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not so aware. The scheme is being dealt with by Waterford County Council under their devolved responsibilities. I understand that the council regard the progress with the scheme as normal and that the houses are expected to be completed next month.
