Vol. 281 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Statistics.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses built in the period from 1st Apirl, 1974, to 31st March, 1975.

The number of new dwellings provided in the period from 1st April, 1974 to 31st March, 1975 was 26,396

Could the Minister give a breakdown: how many public authority and how many in the private sector?

Local authority housing, 7,331; private grant-aided houses, excluding tenant purchase, 17,624; other State-aided houses, 441; conversions of non-grant houses, 1,000—a total of 26,396.

Is this figure in excess of what the Minister had projected for the year?

Yes, 25,000 was the projected figure.

I hope this figure will silence the critics on the far side of the House and outside the House.

Very nicely put.

A question, please, Deputy.

Could the Minister give us any reasons why there are so many thousands fewer employed in the building construction industry?

That is a separate question.

It is not. It is related——

I have stated it is a separate question and may not be replied to.
