Vol. 281 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Sanitary Services Scheme.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that there is a shortage of design staff in County Donegal, resulting in delays in the provision of sanitary services schemes; and the action he proposes to take to resolve the problem.

Proposals from Donegal County Council for my sanction to the creation of additional engineering posts including posts for the design of sanitary services schemes have been examined and I have approved one additional office of chief assistant county engineer for this work. A decision on the creation of two further posts of assistant county engineer for this work has been deferred pending the filling of two existing vacancies at this level in the sanitary services division of the local authority.

Is there anything before the Minister in relation to the two latter posts he mentioned, that is, the two existing vacancies.

No. These are posts which the local authority fill by promotion. When they are filled the question of the two posts which will be subject to my sanctions will come up.

There is nothing before the Minister for sanction in that regard?
