The available statistics for the value of building society and assurance company loan approvals in 1973-74 and for the transitional financial period from 1st April to 31st December, 1974, are contained in the Quarterly Bulletin of Housing Statistics, published by my Department, but these relate only to the country as a whole. asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses in respect of which assurance company loan payments were made in the Dublin city and county areas for 1973-74 and for the transitional financial period 1974; the average value of assurance company loans; and the average salary of the applicants.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 59 together.

The information requested is not available in my Department. On a national basis, the average value of building society house purchase loans was £5,213 in 1973-74 and £5,747 in the period from 1st April to 31st December, 1974. For assurance companies, the figures were £5,647 and £6,443 respectively.

Statistics of the average salaries of the applicants in the same periods are not available. The available information on the ranges of incomes of borrowers from building societies and assurance companies is contained in the Quarterly Bulletin of Housing Statistics published by my Department, a copy of which, on my instruction, is sent to the Deputy each quarter.

When the Minister says that certain information is not available, does he mean that it is not available in his Department?

The information requested is not available in my Department.

It might be possible to get it elsewhere?

Yes, it might be.
