Vol. 282 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Housing.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government the plans of the IDA for the housing of industrial workers in the north Mayo area.

The National Building Agency, at the request of the Industrial Development Authority, have completed the detailed planning of a scheme of 254 houses for industrial workers in Ballina. An application for planning permission for the development is being made. In addition, arrangements are in train for the provision of 24 executive-type houses in the same area. Consideration is also being given to the provision of houses for industrial workers in Claremorris.

Would the Minister ask the National Building Agency to pursue this as a matter of urgency? Is he aware the original plans were shown to the council some time ago and that the application for the full planning permission was made only yesterday?

I am aware of that but there were a great many things to be done first.
