Vol. 283 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 10 (resumed), No. 11 (resumed) and No. 4. No. 11 will be taken between 1.30 and 3 p.m. No. 4 will be taken at 4 p.m. No. 10 will be resumed at the conclusion of No. 4.

May I ask why there is no reference to a continuation of the Private Members' motion now before the House?

I understand the procedure is that if the Allocation of Time motion is concluded it falls and if it is not concluded the Ceann Comhairle will order it at 6 p.m.

In that case in the folds of this rather voluminous guillotine motion there is a dagger secretly hidden to kill off a motion that is causing embarrassment to the Government and that is now before the Dáil.

There is no foundation for that. The Deputy knows, and the House knows, that no Opposition has ever got as much Private Members' time in the history of the State. If the Allocation of Time motion is passed, that will fix the rest of the business for this session. If it is not passed at 6 o'clock, the Private Members' motion will be continued.

And it should be no bother to Fianna Fáil to talk it out for two hours.

If it is passed you are going to kill all discussion on a motion that is embarrassing to the Government.

You never gave Private Members' time.

(Interruptions.)

Order. Deputy Coughlan, allow the Chair to proceed with the business of the day.
