Facilities are available in comprehensive and community schools for the preparation of hot drinks. The provision of snacks is, however, a matter on which public funds cannot be expended. In the case of Cootehill their continued provision has been arranged through contributions from the students concerned.
Will the Minister state if it is true that there was a subvention from public funds for the provision of snacks but that this was discontinued?

Moneys may have been utilised for this purpose but when it came to the notice of the Department of Education they pointed out that this should not be done.
