Vol. 284 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hair Dyes.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the statement by a Dublin doctor (details supplied) that certain hair dyes should have a mild warning printed on the labels regarding possible danger from the dyes.

I have seen a press report of the statement referred to. I am aware of studies which have recently been carried out on the carcinogenic and mutagenic effects of exposure to certain hair colourants and their constituents. I am advised that the results of these studies are inconclusive, are not necessarily relevant to the circumstances of the use of these substances for human beings and merely point the way to further research. My Department will keep in touch with developments.
