In replying to a somewhat similar question by the Deputy on 13th November, 1973 (vol. 268 col. 1716) I said that it would be quite impracticable on cost grounds to put all telephone wires underground, but that it was my Department's policy to put telephone lines underground when this was not unduly costly as compared with putting them up overhead. That is still the position.
