The Government recognises the important role science and technology play in achieving social objectives. Work in the areas indicated in the question is conducted on an on-going basis in the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards and in An Foras Forbartha, and Ireland is taking part in the series of European studies and programmes in these fields.
