Vol. 286 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - AnCO Premises.

13.

asked the Minister for Labour the progress made in the provision of new premises for AnCO in the Cork area.

AnCO are seeking a suitable site for a new training centre in the Cork city area to replace the existing temporary centre at Morrogh Mills, Donnybrook. It is intended that the new centre should provide sufficient training places to satisfy the needs of the Cork region.

How long is it since this site was first sought? What venues were considered?

The search for a new site has been in progress since AnCO acquired the temporary centre at Morrogh Mills. Those buildings are in a relatively dilapidated condition and are not suitable for their purposes. The training authority has felt that it would be better to provide training facilities for the Cork region in one suitable building. It has not been possible so far to get an appropriate site.

I should be obliged if the Minister would tell me what difficulties there are in obtaining a suitable site? Would the Minister wish me to give assistance in acquiring such a site? I can suggest many suitable sites to the Minister that are readily available.

I suggest that the Deputy contact the training authority who would be grateful for any assistance the Deputy wished to give them. Certain difficulties were encountered.

Santa Claus may bring a suitable site.

Could the Minister give the House the reason why some suitable sites were not considered?

I do not like taking refuge by saying that that is not related to the question but I do not have the detailed information about why the sites considered were regarded as unsuitable.

Would it have anything to do with the question of finance?

No. AnCO, under my jurisdiction, has never had more finance.

The Minister should give some of it to his friends.
