Vol. 287 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 14 (resumed) and 15 (resumed) at 3.30 p.m.; Private Members' Business 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. (No. 29) (resumed).

I am glad the Taoiseach changed his mind, but for the wrong reasons, about the Order of Business.

I always accede to reasonable representations.

We know well why the Taoiseach changed his mind and it will be said during the course of the debate.

I suppose a lot of things will be said during the debate. Perhaps the Deputy will tell us something about the Waterford convention?

That will be explained too. The Taoiseach has to go far outside his brief to defend his poor performance.

Deputy Fitzgerald asked me yesterday about the Anti-Discrimination (Pay) Bill. It will be circulated tomorrow.

I hope Fianna Fáil will find time to discuss the Planning Bill.

(Interruptions.)

They were protesting enough about it.

I am calling the next business. Financial Resolution No. 11.

Arising out of the Order of Business, the Minister for Local Government hoped we would find time for the Planning Bill. In fact, I understood it was to be discussed today and we would be quite willing to take it. We are anxious to have the Bill, in deference to the request specifically made now by the Minister for Local Government. Will we have the Planning Bill today?

Yesterday Fianna Fáil wanted to discuss the budget.

The Planning Bill was ordered for today.

This is leading to disorder.

With the permission of the Chair, I should like to raise on the Adjournment the worsening employment situation in Bantry where 50 per cent of the staff of the Bantry Towing Company have been let go——

The Deputy may not elaborate at this stage. I will communicate with him on the matter.

I wish to inform the Chair——

I will communicate with the Deputy. He may not raise the matter now. I have called the next business.

I must convey to the Chair——

I have already told the Deputy that he may not elaborate on this matter. I will communicate with him in respect of the matter he wishes to raise. That must be the end of the matter now.

On a point of order, am I not entitled to convey to the Chair what I wish to raise on the Adjournment?

I understand what the Deputy wishes to raise.

The Chair does not understand——

I understand fully. The Deputy is being disorderly.

I am not being disorderly. The Chair is not being fair——

Will the Deputy please resume his seat and allow business to proceed?
