Vol. 287 No. 7

Written Answers. - Housing Loans and Grants.

265.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the long delays experienced by applicants awaiting local authority house loans; and if he will take steps to expedite sanction in such cases.

The making of loans for house purchase under section 39 of the Housing Act, 1966, is a matter for the local authority concerned and it would be for the local authority to take steps to eliminate any unnecessary delays in dealing with applications for loans.

266.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount allocated to Galway County Council for house loans up to 31st December, 1975; and the number of loans issued.

Separate allocations for house purcase loans and supplementary grants are not made; it is a matter for each local authority to divide its allocation for these services as is necessary. The capital allocation to Galway County Council for the purpose in 1975 was £1.25 million. The number of house purchase loans paid by the council in 1975 was 228.

267.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total amount of money paid out for new house grants in County Galway for the year ended 31st December, 1975.

268.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of applications for new house grants received for the year ended 31st December, 1975, for County Galway; and the number approved.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to answer Questions Nos. 267 and 268 together.

In 1975, my Department allocated 1,071 new house grants and paid out £330,805 on new house grants in County Galway. Statistics of the number of applications for new house grants are not available.
