Vol. 287 No. 7

Written Answers. - Glasnevin School Facilities.

293.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the frustration and annoyance of parents in the Violet Hill area of Glasnevin, Dublin, regarding the placing of their sons in national schools and their difficulty in establishing eligibility for any school in the immediate vicinity; how and when this position will be remedied; and if he will provide a national school in the area.

The Violet Hill Residents' Association made representations to me in 1974 that some accommodation for boys should be made available in the new school which the Holy Faith Sisters were arranging to provide to replace their existing girls' school at Old Finglas Road. I advised the association then that as the Sacred Heart national school, Ballygall Road, serves both the parish of Glasnevin and Ballygall and as Our Lady of Grace national school, Ferndale Avenue, Ballygall, also caters for infant boys, it is considered that there are adequate facilities available at present to cater for the Violet Hill estate. However, should the Holy Faith Sisters desire to provide accommodation for boys in the new school the question will be reconsidered.
