Vol. 289 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post-primary School Places.

16.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the grave shortage of post-primary school places in the Coolock, Dublin 5, area; and the steps he proposes to take to ensure that all prospective students presenting themselves for the 1976-77 school year will be satisfactorily accommodated in accordance with their parents' wishes.

It is expected that extensions at present being built at two of the post-primary schools in the Coolock, Dublin 5, area will ensure that sufficient places will be available for prospective pupils in the 1976-77 school year.

In view of the huge increase in population in the Coolock-Artane area would the Minister say what steps he is taking to provide secondary school facilities for the future, apart from the coming year? As he is probably aware, there are organisations being formed to promote public opinion in an endeavour to get these schools built.

The Labour Party are gone mad up there.

I am aware of the problem in the area. I have already replied to questions in the House on the matter. We have proposals in regard to second-level schools. I have already detailed these to the House, for example, Coláiste Dhúlaigh in Bonnybrook, and extensions to other places like Virgo Clemens College, Chanel and Belcamp. The matter is being looked after, I can assure the Deputy.
