Vol. 289 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Crime Statistics.

28.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of robberies in each of the years 1973, 1974 and 1975; the total amount of money taken each year; and the number of robberies for which persons were apprehended.

The annual crime reports of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána for the years 1973 and 1974, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library, give particulars of the number of robberies reported or known to the Garda in each of those years, the total value of all property stolen in each year, and the number of cases in which detections were made. The amounts of money stolen, while they are of course included in the figures showing the value of property taken, are not shown separately except in relation to armed robberies.

Comparable statistics for the year 1975 will not be available for some time but will be included in the Commissioner's crime report for 1975, a copy of which will in due course be circulated to each Member of the Oireachtas.

Would the Minister state what were the figures in the case of armed robberies for the two years mentioned?

I refer the Deputy to the Oireachtas Library where these volumes are kept and the figures are available.
