Vol. 290 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Recipients.

7.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of small farmers who have been taken off the register of unemployment assistance recipients since the coming into effect of the increased means assessment introduced in the last budget.

I presume the Deputy's question refers to landholders with rateable valuations in excess of £15 living in the specified areas of congestion for whom a revised method of assessing means from land for unemployment assistance purposes was introduced from 31st March, 1976, under the legislation giving effect to the budget announcement. The number of such landholders who ceased to be entitled to payment of unemployment assistance as a result of the revised method of assessment of means was, according to the latest available figures, 2,106.

The Parliamentary Secretary said 2,106 were deprived. Has the Parliamentary Secretary the number who were reduced?

I have not got an accurate figure but I think it is in the region of 5,000.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary provide the House with a breakdown for each of the counties?

That is a separate question and I could not give an answer.

I am asking it as a separate question surely.

I am not prepared to answer it as a separate question.
