Vol. 290 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Home.

6.

asked the Minister for Health if it is proposed to allocate sufficient moneys for the rebuilding of the residential section of St. Mary's Home, Brookvale Road, Dublin 4; and, if so, when work is likely to commence.

The capital funds available to my Department in 1976 have been fully allocated already and in the circumstances it is not possible to provide a grant in 1976 to meet the cost of a proposed new 40-bed residence at St. Mary's, which is estimated to cost around £150,000. The application will be considered later on in the light of the capital allocation for 1977 and the competing applications for capital grants.

I would press the Minister to try to do something for this home this year. Local people have raised all the money they can. We have here a very serious problem of accommodation. The place is a fire trap and has been condemned by the Eastern Health Board and, when they do their part, the Minister will have to try to find some way of going ahead.

A question, Deputy, please.

This is a most pressing matter.

I appreciate this is a project that needs special attention but there are very many more schemes which are very, very desirable. The allocation of the Department of Health, which is pretty substantial, has been exhausted as far as voluntary hospitals and health boards are concerned. I could not promise the Deputy I would be in a position to advance any money in the year 1976.
