Vol. 291 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Western Development Co-operative.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance if a reduction in rates for an indefinite period will be granted to the Western Development Co-operative Ltd, Balla, County Mayo in respect of new agricultural buildings erected since 1st March, 1959, in view of the fact that privately owned farm buildings on much larger holdings qualify for remission of rates.

I am informed by the Commissioner of Valuation that the intensive livestock production unit operated by the Western Development co-operative Ltd., Balla, is not comparable with the type of farm buildings normally associated with a farm but is of the nature of a factory production unit independent of the land upon which it is erected. It does not, in his opinion, qualify for de-rating under the provisions of the Local Government (Reduction of Valuation) Act, 1966.
