Vol. 291 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Housing Schemes.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the housing development scheme at Knockmay, Portlaoise, County Laois, submitted some time ago by Laois County Council, so that the county council may be enabled to prepare contract documents and invite tenders for the houses.

Approval was given on 17th June, 1976 for section A of this scheme, which comprises 128 houses.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is yet in a position to sanction tenders for housing schemes in Ballylinan, Killishin, Luggacurren, Mountrath and Stradbally, County Laois; and, if not, why.

My sanction is not required for the acceptance of tenders for these schemes. Under their devolved responsibilities housing authorities are empowered to undertake the planning and construction of schemes of 60 houses or less, subject only to an agreed cost ceiling per dwelling and to overall expenditure being kept within a capital allocation for the year to the local authority.
