Vol. 291 No. 15

National Stud Bill, 1976: From the Seanad.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider an amendment from the Seanad.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 1:

In page 3, line 55, "five" deleted and "seven" substituted.

When the Bill was before the Dáil Deputy Haughey moved an amendment to increase the number on the board of the National Stud from five to nine. I said at the time I would be prepared to consider the matter and, if it were desirable, I would move an amendment in the Seanad. I did so yesterday. I have compromised by making the number seven and I trust the amendment will be accepted.

Question put and agreed to.
Amendment reported and agreed to.

I hope the Minister does not regard this as a major concession to the Opposition. We accept it gratefully.

No, but I do not believe in excesses, unlike Deputy Haughey. I always believe in taking the middle course.

The Minister knows what Aneurin Bevan said about those who take the middle of the road—they get knocked down.

That is those who do not drive properly.
