Vol. 293 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tory Island Postal Facilities.

10.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when post office facilities will be restored to Tory Island, County Donegal, where the sub-postmaster relinquished his duties some time ago.

Since the resignation of the postmistress of Tory Island in August, 1976, mail and telephone services have continued without interruption. A restricted counter service is provided by departmental staff as frequently as the helicopter service to the island permits. Provision of a normal counter service is dependent on the appointment of a postmaster. Repeated advertising and a canvass of the island attracted no applicants for the postmastership initially but a number of applications have since been received and are at present under consideration.
