Vol. 294 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Vocational School.

32.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of a new vocational school at Cambridge Road, Ringsend, Dublin.

The Department have approved working drawing revisions submitted by the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee in respect of the Ringsend Vocational School project. The committee are now in a position to proceed with the remaining stages of the planning process, including the completion of the working drawings and the provision of other tender documentation.

Can the Minister indicate how close to the commencement date will the completion of the steps he has ontlined bring us?

The momentum in this case rests mainly with the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. The Department's approval for revision of the working drawings was sought and granted on a submission from the VEC on 21st October, 1976. Our approval was dated 23rd November. The present detailed stage of planning cannot be regarded as complete until the VEC submit specifications of drawings for the mechanical and electrical services. Then would follow the preparation of bills of quantities and other tender documents. The VEC have not lately mentioned any date when they may be ready to seek tenders. I would say this cannot be reached until the early months of 1977.
