Vol. 295 No. 5

Written Answers. - Redundant Apprentices.

64.

asked the Minister for Labour the steps that are being taken by his Department through the agency of AnCO to provide alternative employment for apprentices with two to four years of their apprenticeship served, who have become redundant in County Tipperary.

All apprentices notified to AnCO as unemployed are contacted and invited to report to an AnCO training centre to continue their training. They are also registered with the National Manpower Service for suitable employment.

When an unemployed apprentice reports to an AnCO training centre arrangements are made:—

to allocate the apprentice a place in a suitable course for up-dating of skills, or

to employ the apprentice on suitable project work in the centre or on a community youth training programme project, or

to arrange a place for the apprentice on an appropriate block release course.

Only a small number of redundant apprentices in County Tipperary responded to AnCO's invitation to continue their training with them. Alternative employers were found by the National Manpower Service for five apprentices to enable them to continue their apprenticeships.
