Vol. 297 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Expenditure.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount spent by his Department on works under the Arterial Drainage Acts during each of the years 1974, 1975 and 1976; and the total amount spent on other drainage works during the same years.

The Commissioners of Public Works carry out all their drainage works under the provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. The gross figures of expenditure on works for the years in question are given in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Construction Works

Maintenance Works

Total

£

£

£

1974 (nine months ended 31st December)

1,403,000

733,565

2,136,565

1975

2,631,757

1,119,210

3,750,967

1976

3,226,700

1,319,251

4,545,951

The figures for 1976 are subject to some minor adjustments.

I should like to ask the Parliamentary Secretary if any drainage works other than those under the Arterial Drainage Acts were carried out during the years in question.

The Deputy asked for specific costs and they will be published in the Official Report. He did not ask for details of the projects that have gone ahead. I have nine figures here and if I called them out I would dazzle the Deputy.
