Vol. 299 No. 1

Written Answers. - Westport Street Trading.

71.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious problem being caused by street traders in Westport, County Mayo; and if he proposes to introduce legislation to deal with this menace.

Under the Street Trading Act, 1926, it is open to urban authorities to adopt the provisions of the Act and to make bye-laws for the regulation of trading in their areas. On the 2nd August, 1976, Westport Urban District Council passed the necessary resolution adopting the provisions of the Act. It is understood that the council is in course of making the necessary bye-laws and will shortly be submitting them to me for the necessary confirmation.
