Vol. 301 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Political Party Funds.

37.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether he will consider introducing legislation (a) requiring political parties to publish full lists of individuals and companies which have made contributions to party funds exceeding £50 in any one year; and (b) requiring all limited companies to publish the amounts which they have contributed to party funds.

There are no proposals at present for the introduction of legislation on this matter.

Would the Minister not agree that in the light of the successful initiative contained in the last Planning Act introduced by the previous administration the time is now ripe for further development along these lines?

There are no proposals at present for the introduction of any such legislation.

Would the Minister consider introducing a voluntary register of members interested?

I have no proposals at present.

Would the Minister tell us whether the persons who contributed to the support of his party in the last election now believe they received value for money?

(Cavan-Monaghan): They will have to wait and see the result of many inquiries.

38.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether he will consider the imposition of a statutory limitation on expenditure of political parties and candidates at election time.

There are no proposals for the reintroduction of the statutory limitation on the election expenses of candidates which was repealed in 1963 on the recommendation of the Joint Committee on the Electoral Law.
