Vol. 301 No. 3

Written Answers. - Asthma Sufferers.

496.

asked the Minister for Health the number of people in the State known to be suffering from asthma or allied allergies.

There is no accurate figure available as to the number of persons in the State known to be suffering from asthma or allied allergies. About 7,500 persons are admitted to hospital each year with asthma, bronchitis and emphysema. These would in general be the more acute cases and the total number suffering from these conditions in varying degrees of severity is probably much greater than this.
