Vol. 301 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

513.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the extension of the Clonakilty regional water scheme to Ardfield, County Cork, and provide the necessary finance to the Cork County Council.

This extension will now be carried out jointly by Cork County Council and Ardfield Group. The council will provide the headworks at Caher and the group will provide the trunk and distribution mains. I have conveyed approval to the council's proposals for their works at Caher. In view of the high cost of the group scheme my Department has also asked the council whether they would be prepared to make a special contribution to the group towards the cost of the trunk main.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will now sanction, and approve finance for the sewerage scheme for Bantry, County Cork.

I understand that tenders obtained recently for this scheme are being examined by the council's consultants. The question of finance will not arise until a tender for the construction of the scheme has been recommended and approved.
