I am not in a position at this stage to say when the vacancy for a garda at Ballytore will be filled but the Garda authorities have indicated that the vacancy will be filled as soon as practicable, having regard to other demands on Garda manpower.
Does the Minister realise the importance of the Garda station in this remote area? It serves as a labour exchange to a certain extent. Because there is only one garda there the station has to be closed at times and it is not available to people who must sign on for thier unemployment assistance. Does the Minister consider that Garda strength at this station must be increased?
It would appear that what the Deputy says is correct because the Garda authorities have indicated that the vacancy will be filled as soon as practicable.
What does that mean?
As soon as they have the manpower they will do something about filling the vacancy.
