Vol. 303 No. 4

Written Answers. - Howth Harbour.

252.

asked the Minister for Fisheries (a) how the berthing capacity stated in reply to Question No. 203 of 7 December 1977 will be achieved in the OPW dock within the existing harbour at Howth, County Dublin (b) the provision that has been made for when the dock is fully occupied for boats to enter and leave and how they will manoeuvre (c) if the proposed layout facilitates the docking of luggers or cargo boats serving the port for the export of fish, and (d) if the docking of such ships will diminish the capacity stated in the reply to Question No. 203.

(a) The berthing capacity stated in reply to Question No. 203 of 7 December 1977 will be achieved in the OPW dock within the existing harbour by observing normal practice and procedure in fishery harbours when berthing; (b) No special provision has been made nor is it considered necessary if standard procedure in fishery harbours is followed when entering or leaving the berth; (c) Yes; (d) As already stated in reply to Question No. 203 of 7 December 1977 the total number of vessels that can berth at any particular time will, of course, vary according to the number of vessels of each size and category seeking berthage at that time.
