Vol. 305 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing Industry Employment.

9.

asked the Minister for Fisheries the number of people employed in the Irish fishing industry (a) full-time, (b) part-time and (c) in shore-based industries.

In regard to (a) and (b) of the Question I assume that the Deputy is referring to the number of full-time and part-time fishermen.

There were 2,495 full-time and 4,898 part-time fishermen in 1976, the latest year for which figures are available.

A total of 2,800 persons were engaged in processing and in industries ancillary to fishing in the same year.
