Vol. 305 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Factory.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy (a) the total amount of public money granted to Courtaulds Limited in respect of their factory at Letterkenny, County Donegal, (b) the total number of new jobs projected for the factory when the IDA entered its agreement with the company, and (c) the actual number of new jobs created to date.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that grants totalling £6,068,547 have been paid to the promoters in respect of stage 1 of the project referred to by the Deputy. It was envisaged, when the IDA entered into its agreement with the promoters, that this stage of the project on completion would provide 720 new jobs. The total number employed in the factory at present is 172.

Am I to take it the Minister does not know how much profit was made? These facts are not available to him?

The Deputy is referring to the previous question.

I would think no profit has been made. The factory has only very recently gone into production on a limited scale.
