Vol. 305 No. 9

Written Answers. - Sewerage Schemes.

416.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve the contract documents for Portarlington, County Laois, sewerage scheme, in view of the great urgency of this scheme and as both the Offaly and Laois ends of the town are affected by a most unsatisfactory service at present.

The question of approving contract documents for this scheme will not arise until the preliminary report has been approved. In this connection my Department are awaiting the submission of revised proposals by the local authority.

418.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will approve the sewerage contract documents for Belmont, County Offaly, as they were lodged last year for approval and the allocation of the county council houses is being held up in the meantime, thereby creating considerable difficulty for Offaly County Council.

I cannot as yet say when I will be in a position to convey a decision to the local authority on their proposals for this scheme. I understand that they intend providing interim drainage facilities for the housing scheme.
